desulfurization reaction
The key reaction of desulfurization is a vital one in energy production and environmental protection. Before they are used, it mainly removes sulfur compounds from such materials as coal or oil. This technological wonder significantly cuts the emission of sulfur dioxide, a major pollutant, into our air. The principles of desulfurization technology rest on a reaction between absorbents like limestone or oxide of lime with sulfur dioxide to produce solid, stable by products--which can be disposed safely or even recycled. Industries that benefit from its use are widespread: from electrical generating stations and refineries to manufacturing facilities that make use of heat energy in the production process, and need both desulfurized fuel oil as well regulated combustion techniques for thermal (or incineration) work in order not to pollute our environment. Applications are even more numerous. Plants for generating electricity, and even gas turbines have the need to use desulfurized fuel as well. While at the same time it fulfills environmental regulations with cleaner energy production.
